Quick WWDC 09 thoughts
So, some very quick thoughts after today’s keynote (it’s been a L O N G day and the week is completely full until Sunday!).
- Shame we did not see Steve – hope he is doing ok – hello Steve!
- Gruber had the 3GS nailed in his post over the weekend
- iPhone 3.0 software looks great, and not bad for free, and coming on 17th June (I think)
- New iPhone – iPhone 3Gs – not as radical a change as anticipated but some nice new features such as video camera (no video chat), faster, better battery etc. Full details here.

What was great to see was the price for Snow Leopard, $29.99 in the US so about £100 here
and the focus on faster and smarter. Not coming until September, but this will be a good one and I have high hopes of it on the MacPro (good excuse to max the RAM out to 16GB!).

Lastly, although first on the keynote agenda, were the hardware updates for the 15″ MBP, the 13″ MacBook, now part of the “Pro” line and the MacBook Air. Lots of new features, with the main ones being the special new battery now in the 13″ and 15″ as well as the 17″, Firewire 800 on all models (bar the Air) and faster processors. I bet there are a few people smarting right now who have bought a 13″ or 15″ model in the past month or so, as these announcements were a complete surprise.
What stood out for me, being an Air owner, is the BIG drop in price and a bump in procesor speed on the SSD version. Good effort!
So, overall a VERY impressive keynote, some great new software, and hardware, and really does set Apple up for a great summer. Roll on the availability of iPhone 3.0 and the info on the 3GS in the UK
