So, where the heck did that week go?!

It’s been a great week once again. How do I know this? Well getting up and feeling excited about what I am doing is one good indicator and also the fact that I’m working with a great team of people too!

Firstly, a quick hat tip to The Merlin Pub / Hotel over near Macclesfield in Cheshire. I stayed there during the week and enjoyed great accommodation and even better service. Really good staff and nice food. Two areas of improvement - better breakfast needed - by this I mean being able to have a decent coffee, and a cooked option (just fresh eggs would be perfect). Secondly, free WiFi - this is expected these days.

October has been a great month for the business, with two new clients and some very exciting projects lining up for the future. You know it is good, when you are happily working away at all hours, really enjoying what you’re doing and thinking about all the cool stuff coming up too!

Apple Stuff

Bit if a mixed bag here. The 30″ Screen which suddenly decided not to work, has been swiftly replaced under Applecare and is now back in the command bunker. However, my patience is beginning to run a little thin with the MacBookPro. The first one had dead pixels. The second, opened in store had scratches. The third which I went to collect especially yesterday has a ding on one corner and yet more scratches.

All I want is a perfect MBP, fresh out of the box. Not too much to ask, or is it? Next update on Tuesday when I will be calling in again to try and get one which is not damaged :(

I hope you’ve all had a great weekend and have an even better week!

A Packed Week

October 17, 2008 · Filed Under Life in general · Comments

Good evening all :-)

It’s been a good week. Interesting, engaging, fun, exciting and varied. Exactly the opposite to the kind of week I used to have a while ago… Speaking of which I had an email from an old work colleague saying hello. Errr…. 15 months late me thinks.

Week Highlights

  1. Apple’s new notebooks. Looking very impressive, but sadly sold out in all stores I have rung (Manchester, Sheffield and Regent Street). Will be hunting one down next week…
  2. Working with a superb team of people based in the UK, Stockholm and San Francisco. Finally, I have found people who understand the wonders of online marketing, and are also great fun and some are even Mac fanboys!
  3. Doing some tech support for a Premiership Football player (Mac user surprisingly!), along with Monsieur Cleary.
  4. Some crisp Autumn weather - cold is fine. Wet and cold is not.
  5. Some excellent leads for clients in November.
  6. More work with a top flight client.
  7. Great feedback on email campaign from a client

The feedback has been fantastic we have had quite a few emails
saying how much they love the newsletter and the format!

Week Lowlights

  1. Not buying the MBP when I had a chance in the Sheffield Apple Store - doh.
  2. Not a lot else, so that is pretty good!

Misc

  1. Looking forward to reading Noded - a superb new book from Andreas and Jaan, who I met at FOWA last week in London. (I’ll be reviewing the book properly once I’ve read it).
  2. Wordpress buying PollDaddy is a good move

And that my friends, is about it! Hope you have a great weekend :)

New MacBookPro

I’m just back from the Apple Store Sheffield here in the UK.

I am HUGELY impressed with the new machines: so solid, so well designed, quick and just look and feel amazing.

All models were sold out as of 7pm this evening with people being turned away after names taken for a list.

What was most interesting is that the Air felt rather “old”. Just a tad flimsy - the new machines do feel THAT good. Decisions!

I am VERY tempted, but I really need lightness ….. of the Air kind ;-)

Fascinating to see the World View of twitter at the end of today’s keynote.

I think Apple is err, dominating things!

MacBook Pro late 2008 black [concept, mockup]

Loving this mock up of what we could see on Tuesday! Slick and based on the MacBook Air. I need lightness, portability, speed and looks.

Diggnation Live

First stor-ay…, originally uploaded by iancleary.

Well, I’m home and just about back to normal after a long, but superb week.

The photo is from Mr Cleary, and shows the Diggnation guys enjoying themselves. The place was PACKED and having never actually seen any episode, I was a little surprised.

However, it was seriously funny and entertaining, and I can now see why the show is watched by over 3 million people each week!

Is this the new MacBookPro?!

I wish it was, but it isn’t, but you never know! It is in fact a very nice mock up from someone over on MacRumours.

I’m going to be in the market for a new Apple laptop in the next 6 months. My first gen MBP is pretty slow now, has AWFUL battery life (and that is even with a supposed extra capacity battery), and is going to be used to show photos off at weddings (so risking people touching the screen) ;-)

I must say that this mock up looks superb - but I am still lusting after the Air, as long as it has a +2.0 chip.
