As most of you know, I spend a great deal (too much?!) time on the web, and use a lot of online services, both for business and also personally.
I’m a BIG fan of learning from people who know me more than me. You then get their experience, their knowledge and you can save yourself time, money and hassle.
Now, many of my friends, clients and family ring me, call me, email me and often ask my advice.
“What web host do you use Jon?”
“Who do you use for your email campaigns?”
“Where would you buy a camera online?”
So, I thought it would be useful for me to set up a dedicated site pointing people in the right direction! So, here is www.jonprefers.com !

I’m going to be continually adding to jonprefers.com and will let you know when I update on the blog. Any feedback on the design, concept and of course content would be welcome.
The services and products that I prefer are ALL ones I personal recommend - there is not rubbish here. All tried and tested, so do have a look!
Disclosure - some links are tied into affiliate programmes, so I get a little money back, and helps to pay for some of the charitable work I do ![]()
flickr tag cloud + flickr for web presence
I am very impressed with this - very clever indeed! If you use flickr regularly, it’s fun to see what you’re most popular tags are. Have a look here to see how to do it. (Thanks to Rev Dan for this, and Thomas Hawk for leading me to it!).
If you are not using flickr, you should be! It is a great site with some even better communities. It’s fun to search for places you know, and you can even use their map to search for photos in specific areas, perhaps a place you fancy going on holiday.
If you are a business and want to make yourself more open, a flickr account may help. It is another way, someone, a potential customer perhaps, can find you online. With the appropriate tagging, it makes you instantly findable. You could:
- Put pictures of staff up (as long as they aren’t shy!)
- Put pictures of your products up
- Upload pictures of a social event (makes your business feel more friendly and human)… (make sure everyone is behaving, I would not recommend uploading anything compromising!)
- Perhaps even put up a few photos of something you are thinking about doing, changing a logo, a new brochure, and get some feedback
Whatever you choose to do, flickr.com is a great way to see the world, meet like minded people and also get a huge amount of information via the community discussions. You can see my photos here!
Start Slide Show with PicLens LiteFor those of you who spend any time online and read Blogs, you have probably heard of Twitter. For those of you who are thinking, what is Jon twittering on about now (that’s a joke there, I’m here all week) ;-) watch this video!
You can follow me in Twitter here. (Thanks to Douglass Karr for reminding me to post about Twitter!).
MacBookAir
So…..
I am in NO position to buy one of these (yet), but I was interested to hear if anyone had, and what they honestly thought. Is it quick enough? Is it light enough? Is it fully-featured enough? Do you miss not having a drive? (I cannot remember the last time I used the CD/DVD drive on my MBP!).
Interesting fact - the tune in the advert is by Yael Naim, and she has (obviously) received a huge amount of PR out of this, and her record company have pusher her album forwards by 2 months to capitalise on this. Shows you the power Apple has when it comes to exposure.
