Experience is everything
I don’t get into Hull very often, but when I do it’s nice to grab a coffee or a hot choccy. So, I went into Cafe Nero expecting to hand over some cash and get a hot drink in return.
I didn’t even get to the counter.
The place was a mess. Cups, mugs and food wrappings covering most tables. The floor was unclean. It immediately came across as “we really don’t care about your experience”.
I walked straight out.
A friend was telling Kate about a beauty treatment she recently had at a local hotel. To be blunt. It sucked. No one acknowledged her when she went to reception. 2 people walked straight past. The treatment was amateur, the beauticians colleagues were loudly chatting and clearing up nearby. Will she recommend them?
I don’t think so.
I don’t see many businesses or services really taking any pride in their work, their service. Certainly not around here at the moment. Great experience is not rocket science. In fact, I would go as far to say, I’m having better experiences online with brands and businesses right now. How amazing is that?
What bad experiences have you had recently?
What great experiences have you had?

Movember time!
I’m growing a moustache for Movember this year and am looking for Mo Bro’s and Mo Sistas to join the Hull Digital team
Movember is about having fun, growing a moustache and raising much needed funds and awareness for men’s health – specifically prostate cancer. What many people don’t appreciate is that one man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK, more than 35,000 men will be diagnosed this year and that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK.
The more that join us, the more we can “change the face of men’s health” through raising awareness and the money that will be raised. Let’s do this – register and grow a moustache as a Mo Bro, or sign on as a Mo Sista.
To join this Movember team go to http://uk.movember.com/register/10101 and follow the steps. Once registered you’ll be sent all the information you need to get growing.
2009 is Movember’s third year in the UK. If you are interested in learning more about the work that is being carried out as a result of Movember funds, check out the details at http://uk.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.
Let’s “Change the Face of Mens Health.”
Jon
PS I’m quite good at growing mo’s !
Not enough blogging
It’s a good sign in a way. When I’m busy, I don’t tend to blog as much.
When I am not so busy, I write more.
Don’t get me wrong, I love writing and blogging but right now time is a very precious commodity! Once Hull Digital Live has arrived, taken place and the dust has settled, I may have a chance to breathe.
Hull Digital Live Update
Well, what can I say?! The response has been brilliant
All the early bird tickets have sold out, we have a big contingent of students coming from the local colleges and Uni, and the sponsorship + support from 90% of people / companies / organisations has been superb. As to the 10%, I won’t name anyone quite yet, but will certainly be doing so in the future. (This is proving to be a real eye opener, explains a few things and is VERY frustrating).
We have the after conference bash booked at Revolution in the city and I’m delighted to say that Sun Microsystems are being VERY generous and providing a fair few drinks for all conference attendees
Thanks Stewart!
With less than a month to go, it is all hands on deck finalising speaker topics, sorting out the exhibition spaces, arranging the AV and yes, the list goes on and on!
Hope to see you there!
Papers Review on BBC Radio Humberside
A big thanks to Ruth Barcroft, the BBC Radio Humberside DJ, (who does the Saturday morning show) who invited me in to review the papers this morning. It meant an early start but was great fun and look forward to doing it again very soon!
