Well this is looking very hopeful! The actual navigation and user interface seem much snappier and I don’t seem to be getting the dreadful lag which spoiled the whole experience.
Looks like they have done a good job. Now I need to go and try the GPS and see if I can get that to work! There’s also a new version of the Wordpress App, so I’ll be interested to see what features they have added, if any.

David over on the Signal vs. Noise blog has written a great post about the problems he has been having with his iPhone 3G and his summation of the overall experience so far. From the comments (76 and counting), he is not alone and I am seeing the exact same issues. Read on for my thoughts - pros and cons…..
Pros
- Looks great
- 3G is much better than edge
- The apps store ias a triumph and the games are superb
- Wordpress and Evernote are brilliant apps
- New Software 2.0 features are pretty good
Cons
- Buying experience (well, ok, I got a free upgrade) was poor - O2 store vs Apple Store? No contest
- The software is L A G G Y. It pauses, stutters and makes the UI feel very un-Apple
- Battery life - not good at all - you need to really be aware of what technology you are using if out of the house for a while (GPS, Push, 3G, WiFi etc)
- GPS - have not managed to get “my location” yet (about to try it again)
Overall - not as enjoyable as the iPhone First Gen, which did just work. David concludes in his post:
It feels a little like Apple got swept up in knocking down every single detraction point from 1.0 that they lost sight of what everyone loved about the first version. Yes, it got cheaper (not really), faster (some times), installable apps, and GPS, but it lost a bit of Apple soul in the process.
Although it pains me to say it, I have to agree.
New Google Reader UI on iPhone
I just noticed this earlier today when looking at my feeds on the iPhone. Looks like Google Reader Mobile has been updated. Even the individual posts look better, and there are more options by the looks of things.
I really welcome this, as Reader is one of the webapps I use most and will do so even more with the 3G iPhone.

Hmmm…. moral of the story!? Don’t harass Apple fanboys!!! Happy Sunday everyone!
App Store and mobile me
The web has almost reached a crescendo of frenzied Apple reporting / drooling / expectation for tomorrow’s launch of the iPhone 3G. Today has been pretty exciting too with the release of iTunes 7.7 and also the App Store. This is working perfectly and there are 500+ apps waiting to be downloaded onto the new iPhone 2 software. This has not materialised ‘officially’ yet, but I actually have the upgrade file sitting on my desktop right now:
I haven’t done anything with it YET, but I think I will just leave it until the official update comes through on iTunes.
What has been a little frustrating is the lack of the new mobileme service, replacing the pretty lame .mac. mobileme has apparently appeared a few times during the day but is currently not live. This is a shame as the new cloud apps look fantastic. To be fair to Apple, it must be a H U G E job to get everything organised - new mobileme, iPhone 2 software, new iPhone 3G and get it all working together - I bet there are some stressed out people in Cupertino!
So, tomorrow, it is off to the local O2 store to score a new iPhone. Not quite the same experience as last year!

Well, after many goes trying, I was greeted with this a few moments ago. Fan-blinking-tastic. Well done O2 for your poor, poor, poor IT infrastructure and congrats on making a huge number of customers (me included) very annoyed.
So, what now? Wait until the 10th? To be honest, I’m not that bothered. This has been such a poor experience, I don’t mind waiting a while now.
UPDATE - many, many more disgruntled people over here on TUAW.

This is about all you will get if you are trying to upgrade to the new 3G iPhone this morning. After a text from O2, I logged on and have been treated to a maintenance sign, an unresponsive site and errors.
I have a feeling their servers (or possibly server) are a tad overwhelmed!

Being greeted by this on the O2 site after clicking on the HUGE banner on the front of the page, does seem to point towards a high level of interest. I just hope they can meet the demand.
I registered my interest a few weeks ago, just after the announcement, but I am still not sure what I will be doing on Friday. Tomorrow will start with a call to O2 to get some clarification, and then Apple. Come on guys, people like me need some solid info!

I’ve been hankering after a IM solution on the iPhone for a while, and it looks like Google have come up with the goods! Google Talk for the iPhone and as usual, it looks very elegant indeed.
In your iPhone browser, just go to www.google.com/talk, sign in and start chatting. That’s it. Google Talk runs entirely in the browser so there’s no need to download or install anything.
What you do need to be aware of is your status will instantly change to unavailable as soon as you change page in Safari (open a new page for example) or if you change application or go back to the home screen. Apart from this, Google have tried to keep everything true to the desktop application, so I am off to try it shortly! Great job guys!
