A sense of relief and accomplishment

Hull Digital was launched over Christmas last year. A website and the MeetUp group. We had the very first meeting on the 31st January at Cafe Nero in the centre of Hull.

I was expecting a few people. 25 turned up :-)

Since then we’ve had 6 more MeetUps, with 45+ people coming along for the last few events which was just so encouraging.

It had always been on my mind that East Yorkshire and the city of Hull was crying out for a digital conference. An event where some great speakers would talk, where people would be inspired and learn, get a chance to network and above all, not have to travel a long way to attend a conference and get great value.

The attendees

Last Wednesday, over 200 people came along to Hull Digital Live 09 and we had the BEST day! The feedback has been overwhelmingly brilliant, and has completely blown me away. It has made 4 months hard work worth every minute of worry, stress, planning and organisation.

I’m going to write up the day properly over on Hull Digital, so do look out for a post there. I will extend a huge thanks here as well, to the speakers, the partners, sponsors, helpers, believers, the AV team, KC Stadium and everybody who made it happen. Also a massive thanks to Kate for supporting so amazingly through the last few months. Thanks sweetie :-)

A few pics are starting to appear in the flickr pool here.

So, 2 last things. I should have a little more time to blog in the coming weeks, as it is something I enjoy. And the last thing?

Looks like Hull Digital Live 2010 is going to happen, so watch this space!!

The plans for the conference are progressing quickly and the speaker line up joining Rory Cellan-Jones is superb – attendees are going to have a brilliant day, and we are going to deliver real value, excellent facilities and of course, interesting and thought-provoking speaker topics!

We’re going getting very excited and you should too! :-)

I’m delighted to announce that earlier this week, Hull Digital hit 100 members!

That is down to one reason, and one reason only, and that is the support from the Hull digital community. A huge thanks to everyone for joining the MeetUp group, attending the MeetUps and contributing to this site. Also a big thanks to the sponsors – I really appreciate it.

We have sent out a Press Release which you can see here.

So far we have had three Meetups, where nearly 100 people have attended. The group is growing every week, and the feedback has been brilliant. I’m VERY keen to improve, and so please, don’t be shy, don’t just read this and click off, leave a comment, an idea or a topic you would like to talk about over here now!

We will be announcing the next MeetUp very shortly and already have 3 great talks lined up from a variety of interesting speakers. We hope to be posting about hitting 200 members soon, so please do encourage your friends and work mates to sign up!

Hull is not the first place you think of when you imagine a vibrant, innovative online, digital community. However, there are web-lovers, online evangelists, deisgners, developers and gamers, so I thought it was about time we embraced this, and more importantly encourage this community.

This has brought me to launch Hull Digital, a site which is dedicated to Kingston Upon Hull’s Digital Community. The site is going to focus on a number of key areas in the Hull area:

  • Local news, events and happenings in the online world
  • Online Web Applications
  • Broadband
  • Home and business computing
  • Gadgets
  • GPS and Geo Location
  • And many more great topics!

If you are from the local area in East Yorkshire, and would like to contribute, then please do head on over to HullDigital.co.uk and get in touch, or at the very least, comment and contribute!

We’re currently planning our first meet up in January, so please spread the word!
