Ubiquity for Firefox - impressive

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

If you watch one thing today, watch the video below. Mozilla labs have just released the alpha of Ubiquity for Firefox. It looks like a major advance in web browsing / web interface. It is almost like a short cut app on steriods but has the potential to really take off - it is that impressive.

It reminds me a little of Quicksilver - an application which is loved by some and not quite understood by others (I’m in the latter camp). Anyway, check the video out below…v cool :-)

Basecamp Phasing out Support for IE6

July 6, 2008 · Filed Under Internet · Comments

A quick heads up for my clients who are using Basecamp. The 37signals team are phasing out support for the internet browser, Internet Explorer 6. You can read about why here.

My advice would be to take the opportunity to try Firefox, Safari or if you really want (or are restricted by your IT department) upgrade to IE7. To be honest, you should be fine for a good while, but could run into trouble if 37signals change things radically in the coming months. (Being really honest, IE6 / 7 is a poor substitute to Firefox or Safari anyway!).

Over 8 million Firefox 3 downloads!

June 19, 2008 · Filed Under Internet · Comments

Mozilla, and their most excellent browser Firefox were attempting to set a new world record for software downloads a few days ago (17th), and I am happy to report, they succeeded! Over 8 million copies of the new Firefox 3 were downloaded in a given period of time! Congrats to all of you who downloaded it!

firefox 3 congrats

I’m using Firefox 3 right now, and it seems pretty fast and stable. Google Browser Sync is still not working though, and Google have actually said they are going to stop supporting it! The official announcement is here on their blog here, but with over 100 comments urging them to reconsider, you never know. I

In the meantime, you can use Foxmarks, a Firefox plugin, which is supposed to be excellent. I am going to give it a go and report back.

PS If you fancy a personalised Firefox download certificate, you can get it here!

Go get it boys and girls. I’ve installed it on the MacPro and MBP and seems great!

Congrats to Mozilla on getting it launched on schedule!

Ready to do some downloading? Firefox 3 is coming soon.

June 3, 2008 · Filed Under Internet · Comments

Firefox is currently my browser of choice and they have their brand new version, Firefox 3 coming out soon. They are trying to set a World Record on that day by getting the highest number of people to download it in a 24 hour period.

They have set up a great site here, where you can pledge to download and get some cool badges to display on your site (mine is proudly displayed in the side bar).

So, go and pledge and get ready to download! For those of you still using Internet Explorer (I know some of you are from the blog stats), please try Firefox, or Safari. They are so much better!
