I’m a bit behind here, but I thought you might be interested in the top brands this year from the SuperBrands survey.

There site explains that they consult not only “brand experts” but also consumers, giving the results in a number of different categories - business, overall and cool brands.

It comes as no surprise that a certainly G company is kicking everyone else’s posterior in the Business section, as seen below….. (this is 2008 only)

Overall, the results look slightly different - this is taking all categories into account and is 2007/2008:

Moving onto cool brands, we get this result for 2007/2008:

Interesting to see that none of the Official Top 20 Brands make it into the Cool Brands Top 20 - bar Apple / iPod, and Google / YouTube. This is the sign of the ultimate brand - cool and hugely well know and respected.

So, looking at the Cool Brands, how many can you tick off?! Lets see, how many do I use / own / associate with…… 11 for me! The ones I aspire to? Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin in that order. A friend owns a Ducati, and yes, the 1098s is very, very cool (certainly more so than a Japanese superbike which are very common and have little emotional connection), I like Rolex but don’t own one, and you have to be very careful which one you buy to retain the coolness (which could soon plummet to total naffness if you get anything with diamonds and gold on -stick to stainless steel vintage and you will be fine!).

I love branding - it can say so much in an instant. It can effect people’s choice through a simple logo or word, and a brand’s reputation can soon be lost, just look at the fight Burberry has had to recover its status since the “chav” took it as their visible brand of choice. There is no excuse for any business not to have a brand which conveys what their business is all about, is recognised easily and has continuity throughout the entire business. Consumers love good brands and your consumers / customers / clients are no different.

For those of you (like I was) wondering, what the heck were the selection criteria, here they are, firstly for the Cool Brands:
