Smartvue – high tech security
One of the topics I do keep an eye on is home security. From a design, user experience and price-perspective, there is still a long way to go.
Smartvue do seem to have nailed the first two, and crucially are the only camera available to work on the 802.11n network. Impressive.

Having emailed them (they are a US -based company) I was pleasantly surprised to get an email and then a Skype call from Bill Hapner, their VP Sales. We had a good chat about what they are doing, although we did battle with the poor wifi where he was! (In Vegas baby!).
The system comprises of a Terabyte wireless recorder and also 2 cameras: one for outdoor and one for indoor. Bill showed me the two units on video, and they looked larger than I thought, but great quality and design.
The price is the only thing that has stopped me placing an order today. 1 recorder and 2 cams comes in at nearly £4K. That is some serious cash. I hope they can make something cheaper in the future, because the software, the package, the 802.11n and the ease of use make it a winner.
