Google Acquires Grand Central

There have been rumours for a week or so now (Om Malik and Michael Arrington had something on this a few days ago, but it is now true. The official Google Blog post is here. For people who are not aware of GrandCentral, it is basically a web-based service that allows you to have one number only, that people ring, to get hold of you regardless of location, or which phone you are near (mobile, office, home etc). This is handy in itself, but it gets very cool when you can then manage everything via the web - voice messages, different greetings for different people, have all your voice messages kept forever, put blocks on certain people …. the list goes on.
The BIG downside… US numbers only at the mo. Come on Google, lets see this rolled out in the UK too! This could be a killer app for small businesses - I wonder if there will be some kind of integration with GTalk…. or how about a special iPhone application… now we’re talking!
