I posted a few days ago about Tim Ferris and his new book, The Four Hour Work Week. Well it has arrived, but I have not started yet. I am reading his blog though and there is some great stuff on there. This post was of particular interest and I am certain it will hit home for a lot of you. Tim advocates only looking at email twice a day. In fact, he only looks at his business mail every 7-10 days!

I openly admit I am an email and feed junkie so this advice really does go against the grain for me. However, it makes a HUGE amount of sense. Email is VERY distracting. Bing bong!!! New email arrives in your inbox, you are deep in concentration doing an important task and what do you do? Yep. You break your concentration and look at the inbox to see what has arrived or rather, from whom! DOH! Major loss of productivity.

I also admit, that I have suddenly realised (brought on by being given a Crackberry from work), that I am a major candidate for email distraction. Outlook, Gmail, Mac mail, beeps from the Blackberry and also texts to my personal K800i. Madness. I really do need to think about some consolidation, and quickly…..
