Thank Goodness for Applecare

Well, a Monday morning would be a whole load better if my array of Apple hardware decided to behave.
Unfortunately this was not the case, and my lovely 30″ Cinema Screen flicked off with no warning whatsoever. One minute it was on. The next if was off. The funny thing was that the MacPro could still detect it (checked in System Prefs > Display), and so could my old MBP when I connected that.
So, it was out to the garage where I dutifully got down the MASSIVE box the display came in (carefully kept), and after some careful packing, I set off to to the Sheffield Apple Store.
Once there, I was very well looked after (thanks David
!), andit was confirmed that my old friend was indeed dead, under Applecare and a new one would be ordered. Sad, but thank goodness for Applecare…. The 30″ monster was delivered to my office when I was with my old company, and I even have pictures of it by my desk on arrival day
We have been through a load of good, and not so good times together and did me proud. May he rest in peace.

It’s not often that a website really stands out….. but this one does - lisapmaxwell.com
They are an agency which has decided to go completely transparent, and I mean totally transparent! All the agency staff have webcams on them, showing live, what they are doing on the web. A simple concept, brilliantly executed on their website.
The site has some very clever functionality - the people can set their own window to green or amber (only seen when you roll over it) - giving viewers the signal they are available for a chat, or not. When you do click on someone, a bigger window appears and if they are in green mode, you can actually initiate a conversation!
I tried this out with their MD, and it worked perfectly. I think this is a great idea, beautifully done, and very different. Well done guys n’ gals!
Italian Lambo Police Car!
It doesn’t get much cooler than this - not the car you are going to outrun any time soon….
Climate Cars
Climate Cars, originally uploaded by JonnyMoss.
Climate Cars has struck me as a great company for 3 reasons. Number one - great concept of environmentally friendly, well-branded cars, focusing on great service and value. Number two - nicely designed website giving you all the information you could possibly want and online account registration. Thirdly, they are making great us eof technology with GPS tracking, GPS-enabled fares so mileage is accurately calculated.
It is nice to see, that something as “mundane” as a taxi service, can be well branded, bringing innovative service and design to their offering.
I am sure there are similar offerings in London, but this is the one that I have seen first (actually from a tweet from Melalicious). If anyone else know of companies who are doing something similar, perhaps in different cities, please let me know in the comments.

Morning all!
It’s been yet another hectic week, culminating with a virulent dose of manflu
Sore throat was at the front of the attack and then the aches, runny nose and pains. Groan. So, the result has been not much blogging, not much productivity and behind on a load of projects, both personal and business.
I hop to get back into the swing of things today…. and in the meantime, I don’t usually care much for politics, but with the US elections coming so close, and with the possibility (a shocking one) that McCain and Palin, could get in, I urge all my US readers to please watch this highly informative video. Sydney Apple Store Genius Bar from one of my Favourite Photographers
Christopher Chan is one of my fave photographers on flickr. After spending a little quality time browsing photos, I noticed Chris had posted up a few new photos, and then navigated my way to his Apple Store shots.
I love the blue and grey colours in this photo - superb.

Catching up on my Feeds led to me to this very cool / informative video on the Official Google Blog.
Pretty cool eh? This is something that is becoming clearer to me all the time - I use only 10-20% of the features of the Google Apps and software which is available on the web. So much more to explore!
