Google Analytics acting funky

June 30, 2008 · Filed Under Blogging · 2 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Hi all, having changed the blog theme, my Google Analytics stats have gone weird. They’ve dropped off a cliff today (I had a look earlier today and they were at the normal level). Now they are showing only 2 visitors. Hmmmm….

Anyone got any ideas? I’ll check tomorrow and see what is happening, but I might have to revert back to the old theme for now.

UPDATE - a few of my site stats are looking really low… anyone else experiencing problems?

New Blog Theme - your feedback counts

June 30, 2008 · Filed Under Blogging · 2 Comments

I’ve been running the same theme on theappleofmyi blog for a while now, and after a little bit of inspiration from my good friend Steve over on the Hasblog, (if you need some decent coffee, you need to subscribe to his blog - coffee adventures at their finest), I am trying out this new theme.

So, the big question is, what do you all think? If you have never commented on here, (and I know that is a fair few of you!), PLEASE can you take a moment and let me know your thoughts on this new design. Specifically,

  1. Is it easy to read?
  2. Does it look ok on your computer
  3. Can you navigate around the blog with ease?
  4. Do you find the sidebar widgets useful

I’m really trying to raise the standard of the blog this year, most importantly the content, but also the design / look / feel, so again, a plea for your feedback. Thanks!

Apple Store Sydney

When you get people willing to camp out for 32 hours to be first at a store’s opening, you know that there is only one brand in the world that can do this.

Check out the video here - fans like these are the ultimate goal of company / brand. This is when you know you have the story, the myth, the product, the marketing right.

A couple of new features for you

June 29, 2008 · Filed Under Business · Comment

Happy Sunday afternoon everyone! I hope you have all had a good weekend. I wanted to let you know about a couple of things I plan to do on the blog in the coming weeks….

  1. Start a regular series of post where I speak to people who own, or are involved in a business where their marketing has impressed me and/or they have a great product and you need to know about it!
  2. Start doing some regular reviews of websites which have caught my attention - pointing out what they are doing well, and perhaps, what they could do better

However, if you are a business owner and you fancy telling me what you’re doing with your marketing, don’t wait any longer, just get in touch via the contact form here, and perhaps we can have a chat and feature you on the blog!

I’ll be posting the first interview / feature this week, so check back in the next few days to get a strong, fresh, aroma of a great business doing very well.

Ok, I need to let you all know something important

Top, top email tip

June 26, 2008 · Filed Under emarketing · Comment

SEO Moz has a great blog about all things SEO (which you can find here and is well worth a subscribe). I’ve just been catching up on a few of their posts and this one in particular made very good reading.

If you have a business where you are sending out confirmation emails to customers, or in fact, any sort of email really, there is something easy you can do.

Ask those people to link to you. Ask them to blog about you.

It’s simple really. If someone already knows you, likes you and trusts you enough to buy from you or sign up for a newsletter from you, you already have a good connection with them. Therefore they are likely to be positive towards you and postive towards a link request. And we all know who likes links don’t we?!

So, the moral of this is, do not be shy, ask your customers to talk about / link to you. Referral and word of mouth are the best forms of marketing you can do.

Piclens - you need to check this out

June 26, 2008 · Filed Under Internet, Tech · 2 Comments

It’s not often that I say ‘wow’ out loud, but I did yesterday when my friend Anand told me about Piclens and went to check it out.

piclens logo

I had heard about it last year and had taken a look, forgotten about it and that was that. The good news is that they have been working hard on making it better. Much better. How about getting a full screen 3D display of photos like this below?

piclens

Put simply, you can get a PicLens plugin / browser add on for a number of the most popular browsers as shown here:

piclens browsers

(I’ve installed the FireFox one which was a doddle). Once you have done that and restarted your browser, you then see a PicLens logo appear top right in the browser, and if it is illuminated blue, it is a site that supports PicLens. Here you go:

When you see this, you can click on the logo and PicLens launches giving an amazing 3D scrolling media experience! There are many sites that now support it, so have a look! (flickr pictures look incredible when you activate PicLens - easily the best way to see your photostream!).

There’s one more great feature ……..

Wordpress Plugin! - You should see a small PicLens prompt under this post, so if you click on this, you should launch PicLens Lite and see the photos within the post in a slick slideshow. Your readers will need to have Adobe Flash Player 9 or the PicLens browser add on.

So, what are you waiting for, click below and check it out!
