Mobile Phone Research

May 28, 2007 · Filed Under Life in general · Comment

This is a fascinating (short) article on mobile phone research on the BBC website. It is about a chap who is employed by Nokia, who’s job it is, to travel around the world and report back on how people are interacting with their mobiles and how they use them. He is looking at user habits, where they use them, what they decorate them with, in fact most things!

I have currently been given a Blackberry (read Crackberry) 8800 from work and am VERY impressed. However, it does leave me with a dilemma which I mentioned a few days ago, which is information overload. My personal phone is a SE K800i, also very good, especially the camera (3.2mp). I am ALMOST tempted to can the personal one, but it does not make sense - don’t mix your private life with your work ;-) As my Father once said when I was a lot younger, “do not, under any circumstances, sh*t on your own doorstep”. Good advice.

So, the 8800 is excellent, the K800i pretty good, so all that leaves is the 5 month wait until the iPhone arrives! I am looking forward to all the coverage in 3 weeks time when it is launched stateside and we can get some first hand user reaction. The UI looks amazing, I just hope the surfing speeds are ok…

Lewis Hamilton has the world at his feet…

But still has to contend with team orders. A good article on the BBC website goes into a bit of detail about the tactics from Ron Dennis, the team principal. Regardless of “only” coming second in the Monaco Grand Prix, lets face it, he is doing brilliantly! Can you imagine the excitement, the reality distortion field he must be experiencing (and no Steve in sight!), and the sheer pleasure he must get from doing so well, so early in his career.

I wonder what kind of money he’s on? The sponsorship alone must run to hundreds of thousands of pounds. But, he is worth it. The press attention and importantly the resurgence of interest from the British public, make him the man, (boy?) of the moment. I wish him well for his first win, and it will no doubt come soon.

flickr slider - flash slideshow for your Blog!

May 27, 2007 · Filed Under Life in general · Comment

Embedding a flickr flash slideshow in your blog was something that filled me with the feeling of, “hmmm … how an earth do you do that?”. However, it is rather easy, in fact, very easy!
Just go along to this site, put together by a chap called Paul, and you add your flickr set url and you are off and running! The effect is superb and you can see what it looks like in the previous post :-)

Domain names = £££ $$$$ !

May 26, 2007 · Filed Under Web · Comment

This is a fantastic article about a guy called Kevin Ham and others who have made their fortune buying domain names over the past 10 years or so. Mr Ham is now worth approximately $300 Million, so I am impressed. I so wish I was like I am now, 10 years ago i.e. web savvy and more business orientated. I had no idea about the internet and what it would be today. I first started using the net in Southampton in 1998, (I think) on some dog awful beige box (read PC and not Mac) ;-)

Can anyone else remember their first surfing adventures online??

Apple fanboys - top set ups with Apple Displays

May 26, 2007 · Filed Under Life in general · Comment

Glenn Wolsey has compiled a great list of Apple rigs with ACDs. (Gutted my 23″ and 30″ screens are not featured) ;-)
I need to start lobbying for some multi-monitor action at work, preferably 2 24″ Dells (I won’t mention Apple ones). Productivity would go right up! (Honest!). What is everyone else using? Apple screens? Dell? Something else? And who is on more than one screen?

Just been into Hull to see Nick and managed to take some pretty good snaps. Really pleased with the 5D.
Lets hope the weather holds out a little bit longer!
