Nokia N95 - the latest must have phone?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Not sure about that…. I’m still waiting patiently for Mr iPhone, but it you do fancy the N95, then Om has a good write up for you to read. I must admit, my trusty K800i is still going strong although I am on my third. The first just locked up within days of getting it and then the second’s internal speaker went, which left me using speakerphone for all calls. Not good. It syncs well with my Macs and is now officially recognised by iSync (so no more plug ins needed).

What is everyone else using at the moment? Nokia? Motorola? SE?

Microsoft is dead!

April 8, 2007 · Filed Under Tech · Comment

We wish! ;-) But there is a good article about this very phenomenon here - makes for a good read and I agree completely. I am trying to think if I would use anything by Microsh*te if it was not for work, and I can say, rather easily, I would not use anything, at all. Google all the way for mail, feed readers, even docs and spreadsheets. Redmond (where Microsoft are based), are going to have to do something fairly major and soon!

So you really want a PC?

April 6, 2007 · Filed Under Life in general · Comment

I get a fair bit of stick. For a number of reasons ;-) The main one is being a geek, but hey, do I care?! Nah. I also get a fair bit of stick for my Mac evangelism. However it had being extremely gratifying over the past few months to receive calls and emails from friends who have switched from PC to Mac and have said things like:

“I turned it on, it found the wireless network and it worked”

“I see what you mean Jon. It is better”

“Ok ok, I see what you have being going on about all these years!”

Walter Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal has just written a great article about his experience with a new PC (SONY Vaio) and it is not pretty. Compare that to a friends Mac I set up this week - we were up and running, surfing, mailing and doing a movie in under 5 minutes. It continues to amaze me that people are so stubborn and will not try something new, even if they have such a shocking user experience.

Planetarium for the Mac

April 6, 2007 · Filed Under Cycling, Life in general · Comment

This looks pretty cool - stellarium - a free open source planetarium! Well worth a download.

Hope everyone in the UK is having a great Bank Holiday. Looks like we are lucky with the weather - I am even going to try and get out on the bike :-) It’s shiny and polished, ready for action :-)

Great post from Thomas Hawk

April 4, 2007 · Filed Under Life in general · Comment

I think Thomas has got some real cohones for writing about “Race and Photography”. It is a difficult subject, and one he covers well. If you like photography and enjoy reading a blog about other things as well like Macs, media and the latest on the web, I thoroughly recommend you subscribe.

The Apple site was down this morning in the US, and low and behold when it came back up, we had cheaper Cinema Displays (what could be coming then eh?!) and also …

Google Desktop for Mac

Just installed this and looks promising…

There is a good write up on the official Google blog here. Basically it works like Spotlight on your Mac and indexes files so that you can search easily. It will also keep track of deleted files and search your browsing history + Gmail. Pretty good eh? :-)

But the bank holiday is looming! :-) Marvellous, 4 days off!
Apologies for not posting much this week - loads on at work and some exciting stuff, like setting up an official Corporate Blog! I will update you with all the details when it is ready to go. I’m really enthused with this, and we have a real opportunity to engage our customers online and give the us some transparency and a superb method for getting some honest feedback.

Adobe - wearing masks and wielding guns

April 3, 2007 · Filed Under Tech · 1 Comment

They must be wearing masks and waving guns about, and riding horses as well - i.e. highwaymen and daylight robbery! Just look at this detailed price comparison of the cost of Adobe’s new Creative Suite in the US compare to Europe. We are getting bent over backwards with a red hot poker about to ….. you get the picture :-( How an earth can they justify this?

It’s the same, but not as bad with Apple software. And you wonder why people buy software in the States?!!? ;-)
