Apple TV is running late: email below from the Apple Store…

—————————————————————————

Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for ordering the new Apple TV, an easy to use and fun way to wirelessly play all your favorite iTunes content from your Mac or PC on your widescreen TV.

Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments in mid-March, not in February as originally anticipated.

You may check the status of your order any time by visiting our online order status website.

A shipment notification, with tracking information, will be emailed to you as soon as your order is shipped. There is no need to contact us unless you choose to change or cancel your order.

We appreciate your business and thank you for shopping at the Apple Store!

Sincerely,

The Apple Store Team

Apple TV delayed

February 26, 2007 · Filed Under Life in general · Comment

What a shame - Apple have delayed the release of their new Apple TV. I hope mine ships early! I’ve got the HDMI cable ready from Better Cables, but after reading a few articles recently online, I think I may have paid over the odds. Anybody else paid big $$$ for an HDMI cable?

Hmmm… I don’t think this stunt particularly well! I prime example of advertising going wrong.

Dual Band Network solution

February 25, 2007 · Filed Under Apple stuff · Comment

After some scouring the Apple dicussion boards I found a very useful thread showing the diagram below. So, it looks like I can set up two networks, with different bands, so that the MacPro can take advantage of the n spec, and the rest of the Macs can use the g. I will try and get this up and running this week and will report back.

Get your iPhone fix here

February 24, 2007 · Filed Under Apple stuff · Comment

This is a great little video looking at Steve’s keynote again and specifically, pulling out some interesting stuff about the iPhone interface and features. The Ringtones bit makes a huge amount of sense and could provide a decent amount of revenue. If they make it a special format in some way or another where you have to use special Apple Ringtones rather than Mp3s etc, they could easily charge the same for a Ringtone as they do for a music track.

Oscars will feature an iPhone advert

February 24, 2007 · Filed Under Life in general · Comment

Apparently Apple will advertise the iPhone during the 79th Academy Awards tomorrow reports Macworld. One reason to watch them then! ;-)
I’m watching The Day After Tomorrow at the mo on the MacPro - recorded via Eye TV and the Miglia USB stick. I am really, really impressed with it and the picture quality is superb. I burnt a couple of recorded programmes to DVD and watched them on the plasma last night to see what they looked like. In fact they looked great! Now I need to get some recordable DVD-Rs to make it more economical.

I also managed to get hold of one of Apple’s new Airport Extremes. However, I am really unsure whether to unwrap it and get it hooked up. If you are using 802.11 g clients as well as 802.11n clients, the faster speed doesn’t happen - it just sits at the g level and not the n. As we have an iMac, MBP (Core Duo and not Core 2 Duo) and a PowerMac which are all not “n” enabled, it means that we won’t get the quick speeds for the MacPro, which is ready to accept 802.11n. So, a bit of a dilemma - what to do? Any thoughts? I could take it back and look at getting an iPod Hifi which I really fancy for the front room. But, the new Airport Extreme does have a cool feature where you can plug in an external drive to work as an Airdisk. Then, any of the Macs on the network can use it. There is also the Apple TV which is coming soon. Hmmmm…. decisions!

I wonder how RIM and Palm stock is doing

February 24, 2007 · Filed Under Life in general · Comment

During and just after the Apple Keynote, Apple stock went up. RIM (Blackberry) and Palm errr, went down. Lots. ;-) I found this and forgot to post it - makes me chuckle. Can you imagine what the RIM and Palm marketing teams were doing when the iPhone was launched? Crying. Lots.
